The devil does not want us to believe in his existence. One of his strategies is to stay off our radars. That way he can act more freely. We must be aware that his action is more effective if he catches us off guard. But let’s be clear, the “devil” referred to here is Satan: An evil spiritual being who seeks to destroy our relationship with God and lead us down the path of sin and rebellion. In the Bible, he is often described as the enemy of God, and his main goals are to steal, kill and destroy. Given such a background, it is advisable to be prepared, don’t you think? The good news is that God provides us with all the necessary equipment to stand firm against his attacks. But, specifically, what equipment are we talking about? Let us remember that the devil is a “spiritual” being, so our armor must be spiritual. First of all, we have the shield of faith. Imagine a large shield that protects you from the enemy’s fiery darts. In the face of any temptation, doubt or confusion, raise that shield! Secondly, we have the helmet of salvation, which protects our minds and hearts in the confidence that we are saved in Christ Jesus. Then we have the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. This sword is an offensive weapon. It is the most powerful weapon, but you have to know it very well to use it. Jesus himself used the Scriptures when he was tempted in the wilderness. Finally, we have the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, and the shoes of the Gospel. Satan can be dangerous, but only if he catches us off guard. If we wear full armor, the devil cannot stand against us!
