God Wants to Renew Your Mind
In this verse, Paul gives us a very important exhortation. It is as if he is telling us: “Friends, do not let the world dictate how you should think and act! You are called to something greater, something higher.” The world bombards us with negative influences that distance us from the will of God. However, as believers, we are called to be different. We must not allow the world to dictate our thoughts, actions and decisions. Instead of settling, we must allow God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out. This involves changing our way of thinking and perceiving things. It is leaving behind the thought patterns of the world and adopting a renewed mindset, based on the truth of God’s Word. The renewal of the mind allows us to align ourselves with the will of God and understand what is good, pleasing and perfect in his eyes. To do this we must immerse ourselves in his Word, meditate on it and allow its truths to transform our way of thinking. This will prompt us to reject destructive thoughts, the lies of the enemy, and the harmful influences of the world. Instead, we will forge a strong and prosperous alliance with God. When we are transformed by the renewal of our mind, we begin to live in line with God’s will, discover the purpose and plans He has for us, become sensitive to His voice, and seek to please Him in everything we do. When we enter into that wonderful harmony, we experience a full and meaningful life in communion with our Creator.
